[ It's going to take a while to get there, but when she does, there is a path of roots leading to the tree. It is wide and easy to follow... though you should still be careful with your footing, because one wrong step and you'll fall into the lake.

When you get to the tree, you can get more of a proper feel for how absolutely huge it is. This is a tree that could easily dwarf a redwood. There's an opening that leads inside the tree. ]

[without further ado, and after successfully crossing over without much of a problem (such is a blessing of great balance), she steps inside]

[ The inside of the tree appears to be a decent, spacious house. There's a table set up with tea on it and enough chairs for four people, though there are only placements set for three. There is a single door, not including the open doorway that you just came from. The room looks empty, but you get the feeling someone will be here soon. ]

[ It's a few minutes before there's a noise at the doorway.... In walks in a tall, relatively attractive teenage boy— maybe seventeen or eighteen years old. And perhaps it's the '90's-era clothing, or perhaps it's the cigarette dangling from his mouth, but he doesn't really look like he belongs here. ] Oh...? You weren't who I was expecting at all. [ He sounds amused. ]

Those are Echo words. What poor fashion taste... even Echo, who has little familiarity with fashion, can conclude that much.

More importantly... what do you have to do with Saber?

Saber? Is that what he's calling himself these days? [ He takes a drag of his cigarette. ] He was still calling himself "Katou" when we were friends.

...right. "Katou Yue" is his real name. Which friend are you?

I bet you can guess. Cute little Echo. [ He grins. ]

Katou would probably agree with you, depending on the day. [ He's not at all offended by that. ] Do you want me to give you a hint?

You should tell me your name yourself, for if I guess I may have a sword driven through me this time. That is what I anticipate, in all honesty.

[ He laughs at that. ] He can't blame you this time. And yes, I'm Kira.

Ah. It is true. Echo could ask you many things.

I could answer many things for you. [ He sits down at the table and starts drinking the tea. ]

[right, there's tea... she picks up a cup and smells it, what kind is this...]

Are you his friend?

[autorejoin]

[ It's anise tea. ] Probably his best friend, to be specific.

[takes a cautious sip, then responds]

Someone does not react to hearing the name of their "best friend" by drawing a blade.

[though he didn't really "draw" it he "magic'd" it]

I'd tell you to ask him who owned that sword first, but unless you want to see it again... Don't. But let me ask you this: Who can get under your skin better than someone who you used to trust? Someone you once cared for?
