Every Junkie's Like A Setting Sun A product of the life he lead as a human, it's a magical energy field that extends in a ten foot radius, affecting all who are nearby until they, too, are under its effects. The unwary who find themselves in its path will discover themselves greatly affected, as though they have been drugged— though which drug it is seems to change with each use, making it harder to steel yourself from the side effects. As for the user himself, Katou is not immune to the effects of his own Noble Phantasm, though its effects are somewhat lessened on him due to his greater amount of experience. Additionally, he actually gains some benefit from it— an increase in strength that lasts for its duration, though whether it's of use or not depends on how much his Master can get him to focus once he's high. . . WEAPONS
Shiranui A sword given from father to son in a samurai family until it ended up in the possession of the spirit of the Holy Sword, Nanatsusaya. That spirit later went on to inhabit the body of Kira Sakuya and live out a "human" life for many years. As Kira, he formed many connections, including a friendship with the human known as Katou Yue. Though he viewed Katou as somewhat pathetic, he kept him along as a loser he couldn't quite let go of. But Nanatsusaya couldn't stay human forever, and he gave up his existence as "Kira." Before he went to die, however, he gave the sword that had followed him since that brief life as the son of a samurai— and so it was, Katou came to be the newest owner of the sword, Shiranui, that would cut through anyone except for its former Master. |

PERSONALITY
Katou doesn't care for social mores, and can be a bit eccentric at times. It's a personality that Kira recognizes traces of from Setsuna when Setsuna returns from Hades, though since Kira didn't know at the time that Setsuna had run into Katou, he dismisses the association as impossible. He'll say and do the first thing that comes to mind, even if it's not always the brightest idea. If a situation is too much, he'll try to escape it any way he can. It's why he'd turned to drugs in his life, trying to escape from the pain of his family life. He'd even been too high to bother going to his father's funeral, despite Kira trying to convince him that he needed to face his pain. His need to escape also manifests itself by dismissing things as no big deal. "I'm not afraid of death!" he tells Setsuna in Hades, though Setsuna refutes that by quoting back Katou's own words when he died in front of Setusna. It hurt him too much, and he didn't want to face his own problems. As a result of his own childhood, he'd built the façade of his own attitude. He views himself as worthless and unwanted, a feeling that he never does quite shake himself of. His entire attitude was about escapism, trying to get away from an unjust world. It's not until Setsuna rescued Katou that he starts to try and face his problems head-on, instead of running away. Though Katou never gets a chance to really confront the pain of his childhood, he learns to fight for what he believes in. "I need to fight or my soul will rot!" are words he tells Uriel when the angel finds out Katou is losing his memories. They're an echo of something Kira had once told him when he was too scared to go to his father's funeral, but Katou hadn't absorbed them until Setsuna planted himself firmly in front of Katou and said, "You're strong. You've always been fighting, and you've made it this far." Once you win Katou's loyalty, he is very tenacious and fiercely loyal to you. It's honestly not that hard to win his loyalty— all you have to do is give him any sort of positive attention. It's Kira's small pieces of attention in life towards Katou that won his eternal loyalty to Kira, all the more reason he became bitter when Lucifer emerged. It's the way that Setsuna rescued Katou from himself and brought him back that won Katou's loyalty to him, and a willingness to die multiple times to help Setsuna in his fight against heaven and hell. By the time he died for good, Katou still thought little of himself, but he was able to accept his own death. "I'm not fit to enter heaven," but at least he had finally learned to fight for what he wanted. GRAIL WARS
He's been summoned once as a Servant— for the Holy Grail War of Tokyo, he was summoned by Setsuna. Though it might seem like a fortunate thing, the truth is, Katou's summoning was an accident. Using Shiranui as a catalyst, the hope had been to bring forth Kira Sakuya. But though "Kira" is dead, the spirit that was once him lives on as "Lucifer." So it was that Katou was brought forth instead, a secondary association with the katana. "We'll bring back Kira together!" That was Setsuna's fervent wish, and he assumed that Katou's would be the same. The truth is, Katou's feelings on Kira are still very muddled. Katou loves Kira and he hates him, and though he promised to help Setsuna with his wish, he's not sure that it's what he really wants. But he kept those thoughts to himself. Together, despite their bickering, Setsuna and Katou tried their best in this Holy Grail War. They managed to beat both Caster (Hans Christen Andersen) and Lancer (Elizabeth Bathory), but in the end, it was Berserker (Kiyohime) that beat them. Katou surged forth, offering his life in the hope that it would keep his Master and friend, Setsuna, from death. |
